Okay, model constructed and exported... Works fine when Imported, I see all my beams in the right locations, as separate beams. Pan Parameter works, Tilt Parameter works; looks sweet in the UI, actually 'looks' like a Magic Panel 602. I really enjoy working in 3D graphix.... Now, I've got it saved to a media file as a Headmover, just like the Profile of the existing fixtureType demands.by Rex - 3D forum and file share
Hopefully I can attach the jpg of an Imported 3DS model in the shape of an Ayrton Magic Panel 602, enjoy.... If the image does take, any takers on explaining how to construct the shape for proper visualization? I already know how to construct a 'mover', now how to put the array of LED's on the head?? Are they separate 'lens' objects? Is there an empty 'material' that needs to be created??by Rex - 3D forum and file share
Thanks for the link, got it to finally work; very convoluted method to help keep noobs at bay. I do read release notes, must have zipped by that one... I didn't see a tutorial for creating mulit-pixel led moving fixture in 3DS format; looked like the same old help file on creating 3D content/fixtures for MA3D. Is is possible to provide an example? Cause the magic panel model is way off.....by Rex - 3D forum and file share
With the latest install on my desktop of the newest versions of grandMA2 onPC and MA3D, I don't see the Create, Join, Leave buttons? Wacky.... I can see the session from the onPC, both at at 'loopback' psuedoConsole IP, but I can't 'Join' the session because the buttons just are not on the UI?? Anyone else experience this? Corrupted install?? All I see is the sad, little broken heart!by Rex - 3D forum and file share
I am curious about a 'best practices' when exporting geometry[3DS files] for grandMA 3D. When I export the object, as is, from my DCC, with Material data, UV data, Shader data, and normals data, the file size is fairly large. I then save this data to a gmamedia fileType to be opened with grandMA 3D, all fine and good. If I export the geometry without the Material data as a 3DS fileType and tby Rex - 3D forum and file share
I've gotten pretty far with 'geometry parameters' to simulate ERS shutter blades that cut the beam and of all rotate around the beam, too bad each blade cannot rotate individually. No 'virtual' channels needed from the desk to visualize the effects, the art itself with the geometry parameters and how you parent objects together do the trick. Constructing the geometry hierarchy is easy peasyby Rex - grandMA2 discussion forum
Thanks again, here's the result in a gmamedia file, ;), sorry no source binaries....:). Let me know how I did and how I could improve. Rexby Rex - 3D forum and file share
Heh-heh, thanks mate. Say....how did you find this out, if I may ask. I'll have a proper one exported in a jiffy, ;). Plus, gives us one more control for rotation! Whoo hoo!!by Rex - 3D forum and file share
What is the geometry parameter to allow for the barn door geometry to 'shaper rotation' around the beam of light like the provided Arri conventional fixtures. I see the parameter appear as a control for the ARRI, with the control name, 'shaper rotation'. I've tried all combinations, but I can't get the proper 'name' for the control. It's listed at the bottom of the Fixture Type's visualizationby Rex - 3D forum and file share
Thanks, thru my iterations this morning, I arrived at your same list... The missing part was 'IMPORTING' as a headMover, the Import was as a conventional. I patched the channels, but no visualization, now I know why, geometry object was of 'conventional' type. I can visualize the gobo with no patching of DMX channels, wonder why Pan/Tilt/Focus need an actual DMX value for visualization?!?by Rex - 3D forum and file share
I was able to create a new fixtureType for an ERS at 19 degrees with a gobo slot. As a conventional, it has Pan/Tilt attributes in MA3D, but not from the console. When I tried a Pan/Tilt attribute on a 'conventional' fixtureType, the controls appeared in the Toolbar, they just didn't do anything to the fixture; kinda expected if 'headMover' is a key word, with specific parameters. I'm trying to edit a profile to include the parameters I built into the geometry, per the manual. I have no trouble creating 3D objects, of any format. Here's some side stuf I'm involved with The manual does a 'fair' job of explaining things, some of the text is obtuse on things. Forums are okay for information, videos and step by step tutorials are best, I feel. I was willing to trade 3D gby Rex - 3D forum and file share
I'm a 3D graphic artist and can create geometry for MA3D. My first attempt at importing some 3DS geometry went fairly well, an ETC Source 4 ERS. It's UV mapped and has a 256x256 bitmap texture. The _XB object is located to simulate a 50 degree lens cone without blowing out past the side of the geomtry. There is a beam projecting...look under the stage floor! Channel check in MA3D will generate beam. I have sent a copy of my .3DS file to Harmut for proper exporting. I, myself, couldn't get the object, once exported thru MA3D to .XOB format to correctly work with the engine's code.....:(. I am not sure if the provided .XOB file uploaded here has the appropriate Object embedded to createby Rex - 3D forum and file share

Happy Thankgivings! Here we go again, a new .XOB predefined object for your 3D visualisations. This time it's a standard ETC Large Touring Rack, configured for default Socapex lettering above and 2Pin&G HotPatch below. Conviencence Panel is a default 8-cir hotPatch 2Pin&G along with 2 duplex Edison outputs. Source Input is a again; default. non-PassThru config. The texture cby Rex - 3D forum and file share

Expect email arrival with attachements[3], Harmut. Thanks! I also have the ETC_PAR fixture; not as 'showReady' as ERS, but in the Pipeline...DataFlash also. Looking into ColorBlaze/Blast and Coemar Parlite objects.by Rex - 3D forum and file share
Wow, just noticed the size of the .xob object, must save a copy of the texture inside the file. Here's an untextured version... Rexby Rex - 3D forum and file share
Here goes...what I've been goofing with the past few days. A nice representation of a ETC Source Four ERS 19 degree. Includes C-clamp. .JPG & .BMP textures available. This object could be optimized a bit more, but hey, it's free and a nice little representation of the 3D work I can create, :)! It would be super cool to have the MA folks export it as a working dimmer fixture & perby Rex - 3D forum and file share
Beautifully done, very clean! I, myself, have a lot of the ThomasGD12 series of trussing in .xob and .xtr format; in US measurements. I really tried to knock down the poly count to a bare minimum. I believe I got my 10' sections below the GP download. I really envied the snaps...I always forget to build something like those before I export and lock in the defaults. Swanky, Harmut, keep up the good work! I'll certainly be following along closely. some notes, sorry to hijack the Thread: I've observed some crashing when I'm in one of the 3 2D orhto views; most noteably when I accidently mouseCenter wheel-Click. It seems to switch the views?? or zoom??, I once saw a view that doesn't 'officially' exist, at least I don't think so...it was very odd. Also, theby Rex - 3D forum and file share
If you can get the exact dimensions and pivot points, I can easily create any fixture shape, fairly quickly. I already have some generic standard objects, lights, TomCat truss, ETC Source-4 fixtures lying about...RexHeavyIndustries can hammer just about anything into shape. I own a license for one 3D game engine and MOD in the Source HL2 engine too, so I am very familiar with producing 3D shaby Rex - 3D forum and file share
I'll try to help. I've just recently done something like this. To the desk, it seems there are just generic DimmerTypes[8 bit, 16 bit, yadda, yadda...]. And they all seem to have the same generic beam spread[30]. This is what I did to 'create' different dimmerTypes to get different visualizations, because what I noticed was that if I used the dialog to generate MULITPLE instances of a dimmerby Rex - 3D forum and file share
Great fun this program is. I'm in the midst of recreating the theatre I worked in for a few years a while back in San Francisco; to see how close I can get to 'real'...and it's very close. A little disappointed I can't create custom Fixtures from the GUI interface as the manual describes, but with a bit of 'hackery', I did manage to get more dimmerType fixture visualizations. Thanks ALL! Got things working at a basic level. Even got onPC & the visualizer connected and controling the default 4 VL1000 rig...:), popped in a gobo and wow. ...and I started creating some shapes by Importing a ETC Source4 PAR fixture I have. It took a simple cube shape to get my scaling right, and I exported it to .XOB format. Now, to work up a simple icon for it.... I'm still notby Rex - 3D forum and file share
Thanks a bunch. I have a few more quick questions; which version of the desk/console should I run on my PC to get the best connection between desk and the 3D visualizer? OFFLINE-5660 or GMA OnPC 5.660? Does it matter? What are the differences between the two? I don't actually own a grandMA desk, merely trying to educate myself on my PC about the desk and the fixtures available. Thanks againby Rex - 3D forum and file share
I've just setup a new computer, and I want to install the Visualizer. I see on the download page, a few versions to install. I understand that the 36 Mb should be the FIRST. My question is about the second 4 Mb file. Should that also be installed after the 36 Mb.exe? Now I see a Bugfix Version 5.66. Should the 5.65 UPDATE.exe be run as the second installation? or just the 5650.exe and thby Rex - 3D forum and file share
Good afternoon... I'm a professional stagehand/electrician who has a strong background in 3d modelling. I'm in the process of learning this valuable program and I'm curious about how to 'correctly' setup a shape for .X or .3DS exporting to arrive in grandMA 3D without scaling, etc... More specifically this is about the pivot points and any special 'nodes' needed to work with the renderEngiby Rex - 3D forum and file share
Very kind, Glad, Thanks! I will add those parameters to my profiles for even greater ease of use, ;). Still not sure about brightness? Wattage? Footcandles?? stock value is listed at 10000??
